We also research potential novel electrorheological fluid systems which have numerous applications. One such system is polydimethyl siloxane (PDMS) with micron size polystyrene particles and polyhedral silsesquioxane nanocages. This system exhibits multiple orders of magnitude increases in viscosity upon the application of an electric field. Such an effect is consistent with conventional ER fluids. We are interested in the influence of particle size, in both the micron and nanometer size range, on the electrorheological behavior of various ER fluids.
